November 5-11 is Ontario Treaties Recognition Week and an opportunity for staff to talk to students about Indigenous Education. On November 8, 2018, Melanie O’Neill, Indigenous Education Advisor to the Durham Catholic District School Board led staff at Monsignor John Pereyma Catholic Secondary School in a discussion regarding Treaties in Ontario and why we say the land acknowledgement in our schools.

“The land acknowledgement is an opportunity to accept that we are all treaty people and part of  reconciliation,” said Ms. O’Neill. “Indigenous Education is a great opportunity for collaborative and inquiry based learning for students because our culture matters and our culture is who we are.”
