The study of Mathematics is integral in order to function as a contributing citizen and life-long learner in today's society. Our department's goal is to instill students with an appreciation for Mathematics and prepare them with the necessary mathematical and literacy skills necessary for their selected post-secondary pathway.
| Ultimate Potential (UP) Math Program |

At Monsignor John Pereyma Catholic Secondary School we are proud to offer an Ultimate Potential (UP) Math program for students in Grade 9 Applied Mathematics who are not meeting Level 3 or 4 provincial assessments in math. This program takes a different approach to math that involves a change in teaching practices with the result being shocking improvements in students' Grade 9 Applied Mathematics EQAO scores. Our UP Math teachers observe their students working on a task, then reflect upon and modify the task as necessary to help the student be successful. This practice helps a students' growth mindset and encourages students that hard work can equal success. |

At Monsignor John Pereyma Catholic Secondary School, students from all grades have the opportunity to enrol in mathematics contests to extend their mathematical repertoire beyond the school curriculum. Information on past contest papers and registration deadlines are available at the University of Waterloo and Math League. |
